Added a Crawl of Thumbnails of Web Design Projects

Today I added a crawl of thumbnails of screenshots of projects from my portfolio to my header.  Just a little something to showcase some JavaScript implementation into my WordPress site, and for presenting the work up at the top of each page.  A little bit of eye-candy factor.

I have over 70 thumbnails of projects to choose from, and I didn’t want the page load time to become enormous from loading all 70+ thumbnails into the crawling clip.  So I coded the crawling clip for 10 thumbnails, and added a little .PHP coding for picking a random number between 1 and 66, and then incremented the number up from 1 through 10 for each image.

So on the page load let’s say the code generates a random number of 43, we see thumbnails number 43 through 53 in the crawl.  The page loads again and the page generates another random number of 6, we see thumbnails of projects 6 through 16.  Each page load a different number with the corresponding sequence of 10.  Thus our page load times are small and the user gets to see a different selection of thumbs from page to page.

For this little feature I utilized Google’s ever popular jQuery library and SimplyScroll – “a scroll-tastic jQuery plugin” by Will Kelly and just a little bit of my own .PHP.  Till next time~

HTML Email Cut and Coded in an Hour

I had work waiting for me in the email box this morning.  A regular client of mine, a design partner in NYC, needed an HTML email cut and coded for their “global soft drink corporation”.  They said, “This is due as soon as it can be completed (end of day today or tomorrow if possible for you.)”

So first thing this morning I cut and coded it in Email compliant HTML and got it back out the door.  For these emails I also provide a spreadsheet of links and corresponding cuts for marketing tracking.  Before delivering the staging and the zip I tested the email in Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook 2010 on PC.  I know they test it on Mac in Gmail and Outlook 2011, and I test it here on my Mac as well.

I started it at 10:15 am and wrapped it up at 11:15 am precisely.  They had it back in New York City at 12:15 am.

Part 2 of Phase 2 of Website Portfolio Migration Complete

Well, my Phase 2 objectives were to migrate all existing content from the static HTML portfolio over to the new WordPress Portfolio are now complete. I will spend the rest of the day setting up Content Pages such as Services and Fees and Contact, which is content that did not previously exist on the old portfolio.

It has already been a busy week this week. I cut and coded a Pure Pepsi HTML email to be sent out soon. If you haven’t already you should sign up for the Pure Pepsi HTML Email, they really do have great offers and you can see monthly examples of my HTML email development work sent right to your email box!

Also this week my Design partner Phixative in New York City is wrapping up launching a new website for the Omaha Integrative Care for Fertility clinic in Omaha, Nebraska. I provided production design, web development in .php html and css, as well as research for selling event tickets online and integration into said platform. It was a great project and the client and team are happy to see it launch.

Of particular challenge to re-skinning the look and feel of EnergyPriceQuote.com was integrating the new CSS and design onto the old .ASP legacy HTML. Many of the pages are rendered conditionally from dynamic includes and multiple if / then table constructions.

I restructured and rewrote content for SEO and SEM and Social Network Marketing. I write and post daily and weekly content for ongoing Search Engine relevancy and ranking.

Working directly with their back-end developer I supervised creation of internal user reporting for conversions and usage monitoring.
